AE flood zone, 26" 'float point', East Beach, Norfolk. Built on 'sandy soil', old sand dunes. The flood waters ebb in from under quickly... just as they ebb out after the storm. The 'Floating Moisture Barrier' accommodates the incoming flood waters all the while protecting the 'atmospheric vapour saturation' levels, even & especially while it is in 'float mode' until they ebb out.

BEHOLD... the 'pier collar float', 2" custom cut polystyrene attached to the moisture barrier around the piers. When all 'float obstacles' are fitted with 'flood floats' the 'flood panels' rise in unison when flood waters encroach.

'Post float marks' indicate how high the 'Floating Moisture Barrier' floated by leaving mud lines on the 'pier wraps'. This structure floods 15 or so times a year when the nor'easter winds blow hard off the Chesapeake Bay at high tide.

A crawl spaces 'float point' is the maximum height at which the 'Floating Moisture Barrier' will ascend without rupture. This is determined by the structures 'float obstacles'. The lowest float point assigned to any of our 'Floating Moisture Barrier' systems is 8", the average is 14", our maximum 'float point' is 26".

A reverse pool liner of the sort that keeps the flood waters under the poly simply by making it float. This is done by attaching 'flood floats' to the edges of the 'float panels' & by directing the flood waters underneath. Simple!

This one is in 'float mode' & has 3" of water under the 'float panels'. We were putting the finishing touches on it when a rain bomb hit. Non-flood zone but has a 6" 'subgrade crawl space'. Sump pumps are not generally designed to handle a deluge from rain bombs & tidal floods. The pumps installed under this structure can not keep up with heavy rains when the soils are 'super-saturated'.

The 'Floating Moisture Barrier' can withstand small tidal flood events as well, up to the systems predetermined 'float point'.

All crawl space obstacles can be floated around including plumbing fixtures. If a sump pumps fails or if the GPM (gallons per minute) exceeds the flood water rate in, this 'large float ring' will keep the waters under off, ascending & desending with the water underneath. Simple!

Generation I, standard 'float pack', cut from standard 2" polystyrene. HOME MECHANIX will determine the number of 'float obstacles' that your crawl space needs & how many 'float panels' & custom cut them to fit.

32 'pier floats' mid way. This one has a 14" 'float point' & will withstand 4" from a tidal flood. It is in an AE flood zone & has a 10" 'below grade crawl'. The pumps were inadequate for this structures dynamics, with potters 'clay type soil' the drains & 2 pumps could not accomodate the heavy rains on the sloping terrian. The 'Floating Moisture Barrier' will protect this crawl spaces atmosphere the 3 or 4 times a year when it's overwhelmed with heavy rains.

When a 'Floating Moisture Barrier' is installed in a flood zone & a higher 'float point' is needed we install 'inner vent wells' on the inside of foundation vents if they are in close proximity to the ground. In non flood zone installations if the foundation vents are 'below grade foundation vents' 'inner vent wells' are required as well.

The 'door float' keeps the flood waters under the poly when they enter through the crawl space door. This was is a litlle wonky but it works. Most are standard but some need a little customization. Any crawl door on the ground could use a door float.

The Floating Moisture Barrier is a patent-pending methodology that protects the contents & atmosphere of your crawl space from harmful moisture vapors by disallowing water from getting on top. With novel installation techniques, custom float devices & by sealing the poly panel seams, our moisture barrier floats upward when the flood waters come in. This allows flood waters in the crawl space to ebb out into the ground without damaging your moisture barrier or the contents above it, & all the more important protecting the atmosphere above. The worst thing for your crawl space is the trapping of water on top of your poly vapor barrier. Trapped moisture vapors within the contained environment of the crawl space walls creates a humidity factory that produces all of the yuck & damages that require our services.
